Fog, haze and the right fluid

Atmosphere shapes how light is seen, but needs a venue plan.

Sources checked 11 September 2026.

Define the effect

Dense fog produces a pronounced cloud; haze is used for a finer atmosphere and beam visibility. The result depends on machine, fluid, ventilation and venue. Room size alone does not determine the required output.

Match fluid to the machine

Use only compatible manufacturer-approved fluid. Smoke Factory publishes machine instructions and fluid information. Do not mix products or assume all water-based fluids are interchangeable.

Coordinate with the venue

Before rehearsal, agree ventilation, fire-system arrangements and operating conditions with responsible venue staff. Do not disable protective systems yourself. Include sensitive occupants, exit visibility and machine maintenance in the plan.

Two more useful answers

Does water-based mean there are no other ingredients?

No. Read the product information and safety data sheet.

Can haze replace laser-safety assessment?

No. Beam visibility and permitted exposure are different matters.
